Music Recording Update...EEEK!

Last night.

Wow.

A small team of musicians met at my friend Ian's home to record parts for 3 of my original songs.

Giorgi started warming up on the violin, and the entire atmosphere shifted! I actually had to remind myself to BREATHE! It was so beautiful! If you know me, you know that violin is my ABSOLUTE favorite instrument. The particular song he was recording on tells the story of how I grew up as a missionary kid. To hear my story come alive in the lines and beauty he created was astounding.

THEN Dominic showed up. Gheesh! That man unloaded a literal rail car of drums and shakers, most of which I've never seen in person! The second he started sharing what he had envisioned for the first song, Bill and I looked at each other and nodded. Yep. This was what we were hoping for. It took a hot second to set up, but when he started playing the DunDuns everything in me wanted to get up and start dancing and jumping! (Don't worry...I played it cool and didn't ruin the recording)

Moments like these only happen once in a while (at least in my world).. Ya'll know I am a VERY joyful person, but my joy overflows when creating something beautiful...especially something that brings my Creator praise!

It's not just the music though, it's the people. I'm absolutely floored by the talent and generosity of Bill and Michael, who are producing, mastering, and lugging around tons of equipment to make this happen...oh, and did I mention that they are also musicians on the project?

I've known Bill for quite a few years now. I get to sing with him occasionally with his super awesome Sky Kings Band. But with all that he has accomplished, his humility always impresses me. I love his approach. We were talking to Dominic, our percussionist, about African drums and how they would normally be played within a song. Bill's humility is profound...."I'm learning about this, tell me how you would do it."

And Michael? Quite possibly the driest sense of humor I've ever witnessed, but also, super thoughtful and flexible. Despite the fact that he is "one of those guys that you can give a band-aid and a stick of gum to and he will build a shopping mall" he stays super humble.

One of the most precious things about this session is WHERE we had it. My friend Ian's heart for our community is awe inspiring. He is truly a champion for musicians, organizations, churches and non-profits. He carries tremendous wisdom. He opened his home and created a space for us to rehearse, record and connect. And of course, we get to snuggle everyone's favorite pup while we are there!

To say my heart is full is an understatement. It's so much fun to MAKE the music...I can't wait to SHARE it with YOU soon. But in the meantime... here's a couple snapshots from the evening!
